Mute cornetti in F
Five of the instruments preserved in the Vienna Collection fully fall under the cathegory that we define nowadays as „mute cornetto“, these are SAM 225, SAM 226, SAM 227, SAM 228 & SAM 229.
These instruments are tuned in F (with A around 470 Hz. for most players) and they have a V-shaped carved-in embouchure which produces the characteristic „mute“ sound we are used to expect nowadays from this instrument.
Bellow there is a brief description of these five instruments.
